Gandhi, an Indian barrister, addressing a mass meeting of Indians on the Rand, declared that Lord Elgin's action in sanctioning the Immigration Act has unduly strained Indian loyalty, for it was a barbarous and savage measure, although passed, by an avowedly Christian Government.
Gandhi and eight compatriots: were prosecuted for failing to register under the Act, but were released on parole.
Many Indians have been arrested elsewhere in the Transvaal.
