TRIPLE BATHING FATALITY AT BLENHEIM.
MARRIED WOMAN AND TWO SINGLE GIRLS DROWNED.
BLENHEIM. December 29. A triple.;bathing fatality occurred here yesterday afternoon. A party of -.ladies and children went to bathe in the Opawa River, outside the town. Zita Shaw, 12 years of age, was carriedl off her feet. Mrs. Arthur Farmar (37) and her daughter Rona (17) went to her assistance, but also were carried away. Zita Shaw's mother, who is a good swimmer, went to the rescue, and almost succeeded in getting her daughter to the bank, but lost her. She then went in to rescue Mm. Farmar, who had fainted1, but without success, the two Farmars and Zita Shaw all being drowned Mrs. Shaw was diving to find the bodies when assistance arrived. The three bodies were soon recovered, and efforts at resuscitation continued for a /considerable time, but unsuccessfully, under direction of Drs. Adams and Auddetr. An inquest was held to-day, at | ,which a verdict of accidental death by [ drowning was returned. The jury spe- | cially commended Mrs. Shaw's bravery and the prompt action, of a number of 'men and the police who reiefovered the bodies and rendered aid.
Mrs. Shaw, who;is the wife of Mr. Frank Shaw, chemist, iand! a prominent townsman, is prostrated with the shock. Mr. Farmar Was absent at his farm some miles away when the affair happened.
