THE OTAGO-WELLINGTON MATCH.
(Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 28. ideal weather conditions prevailed when the Otago>-Wellington match was resumed to-day. The local team made a wonderful recovery, the last four wickets adding 244 runs. Blacklock gave a masterly exposition of clean, vigorous hitting, registering 60 in 54 minutes. Eleven fourers were included in his saore, seven of them being from successive hits. Mahoney was batting 3 hours 18 min.utee for his 84 runs. Only one chance was debited against him— at 35. Monaghan and Hales established a local record in representative matches by putting on 84 for the last wicket. Monaghan, who had three sixes to his credit, was unbeaten with 47, while Hales was credited with 48. Torrance was the most successful bowler for Otago, capturing six for 70. He had no success with the ball to-day. Fisher's two wickets cost 94 runs.
In its second strike, Otago again gave an uninteresting exhibition and th© rate o9 run-fretting was very tedious. Two wickets fell for no runs, but Austin. Siedeberg, and, later on, Siedeberg and Eckhold altered the complexion of affairs, and, when/ stumps were drawn, tbo score stood at 115 for four wicketc. Siedeberg notched 45, and Eeckhold land Mackersey are not out with 23 and 20 respectively. Monaghan was the most successful bowler. Otago, with 6 wickets to fall, has to compile 74 runs to avert a one inning's defeat.
