WANGANUI V. MARTON.
This match was played at Marion on Saturday and resulted in a win for Wangjanui by 51 runs on tins first innings. "Wiangunui played with, only tan men. and' were without the services of K. Oave^bnt nevertheless played well, andl tho 'tail of the team proved1 very strong. JVlarton are. not nearly so strong as in previous years, and players ttoe-med out of form. Batting: first, Martcm only compiled 75. Marshall was tho only man to show any form, and ma<ln-24 in; his usual graceful manner. W. B. Cave had a great return to form, capturing 6 for 19. F. Holland' got tho
rest for 27. Wanganui opened carefully, H. B. Cave and Treloar batting. After making 21 11. B. Cave hit round Hedges. With the exit of Cave, things became serious, as four batsmen went down for next to nothing. However, C. A. Hollandl played very well, and hitting a neat I-1- placed matters in a bettor position. Thompson, Cave, and Murchie also batted well,' the 'firstnamed hitting a fine 6. Treloar, who played all through the innings, was bowled by a full toss after making a very welcome 40, marred, however by a few chances. TJio Marton bowling W as not good, 'but Hedges secured1 the best average—4 for 24. In the second innings, Marton lost six wickets for 69" Marshall again batted well, scoring 27. C. A. Hola-nd secured three wickets for 4 runs in this innings. Tho match was a most enjoyable one indeed, and the visitors were entertained most hospitably— a welcome featutro in matches with Marton.
