SHOOTING.
| WELLINGTON NAVALS v. WANGANUI IRISH RIFLES. The above competition took place ou Saturday afternoon on the Putiki rifle i range. The teams wore composed of 14 ! men aside, including lion, members of both corps. The weather was very favourable to shooting and some good scores were registered, viz.. Petty Officers Ross (89) and Balcombo (88) of the Wellington Navals, and Hon. Mem. Purnoli (95) and Col.-Sergt. Provost (93) of the Irish Rifles . The ranges were 200. 500, and 600; 7 shots being fired at each range, with one sighter (not to count). This is the third occasion on which teams from the above corps have met in a friendly competition, the Navals being victorious once, and the Irish Rifles twice. On the Friday evening prior to the match the visitors were entertained by , the Irish Rifles at a smoke concert in Hodson's rooms, about 50 being present. A thoroughly enjoyable evening was spent, various toasts being given by members from both corps. On Sunday the visitors were taken up the river in a launch, a trif> that was very much appreciated by them. They left for Wellington by the 7 train this morning, having spent a thoroughly enjoyable holiday.
