DENNISTON COLLIERS TROUBLE
THE POSITION EXPLAINED
(Per Press Association)
WESTPORT, December 29. It does not seem to be'generally understood that the Westport Coal Company offered, before the aase came to Court, to give tho Denniston miners the ''bank to bank" clause, subjoct only to an arrangement of the travelling timo to and from the respectivo working places, which the management considered absolutely to ensure the regular working of tho machinery. This offer the men refused, and the case went bofore the Oourfc, and judgment was given in favour of the Company. Notwithstanding this, however, the Company repeatedly offered to forego clause 16 of the award and give the "bank to bank" clause on similar terms to those agreed to by the Granity miners; but again the offer was refused by the miners.
The Westport Coal'jOompany's output last week was 2505 tons 6 cwt.
