The 4' Hartnett" Milkers at Dookie College. «3> The Government Dairy Expert, Melbourne, Victoria, Mr. R. Crowe, has now completed his calculations of ieturna from cows, both hand and machine milke-d, at Dookie College, Victoria, for the year 1905-6. The report is a voluminous one, and has been forwarded to Mr. E. G. Duffus, Secretary for tho Council of Agricultural Education. Mr. Crowe has also kindly supplied Messrs. . IJoldenson and Neilson vith a copy, which can be inspected at their office, 521,- Flinders Street, Melbourne, by those interested. The gist'of the report is that, in 1906, tha cows milked by the "Hartnett" machines crave an average of 12.0 per cent, better milk yield, with 11.91 per cent, bettor butter-fat yield, than tho cows returned under hand milking. According tn this, a, caw giving a..return; of iCB for 12 months' milk under handmilkina, -would when milked by the "Hartnett" milkers, return £9 10s.. air '■ exhm profit of £1 10s. per cow, be.siqes < about 50 per cent, saving in working expenses. This is solid proof of the cere it superiority of machine over hand 1 milking and shows the necessity for all 1 up-to-date farmers who vrish to make* 'i ! succpss'of dairying to lay aside the old methods and drudgery of hand milking, j 1 and go in for the 'more up-to-ctat'-> methods oF machine- milking. Mr. ,Qiwvo concludes his repoit with the following: "As far as the comparison between hand vnd machine milking is .concerned.* tho result has come o«;t in favour of the machine.—Your obedient servant (Signed) Robert Crow*."
