WANGANUI TROTTING OLUJB

A meeting of the committee of the Wanganui Trotting. Club was held in the .secretary's office last night, when there were present—Messrs C. E. Mackav (in the chair), G. Ross,.G. Swan,' F.'Faber, D. Kennedy, W- Tuck, O. Giesen, A. McFarlane, W. M. Ashton, G. Spriggins, W. J. Aynsley, and W. Young. Apologies for absence were re~oeived from Messrs C. Young and It. McKinnon.

The minutes of the previous, meeting were read and confirmed. 'i

Mr Ross reported that he had- arranged with Mr Vernon Jones for print-r ing a very attractive poster.-—Resolved that Mr Ross's action be endorsed. -. v -

The secretary reported that he h&d arranged for streamers to be priiited and erected at the Newmarket, Rutland, and Provincial Hotels. - < r Resolved that all .members' tickets ho' posted forthwith. ' '" ..-.'" Resolved that Messrs MeFarlane, ] Spriggins, and the secretary be a Measuring Committee, and that all ponies be measured at the Rutland1 stables at 2 p.m. on Friday next. : ' A resolution to engage Mr Walden as.J bookmakers' detective was withdrawn,, and Messrs Young, Spriggins, and the secretary were appointed a- sub-corn-: mittee to deal with the-bookmakers. The fees fixed were £10:10s inside the enclosure, £5■ 5s outside. Messrs Spriggins and Faber were appointed an Entertanment Committee. Messrs S. Woon and W. Lewis were elected of the vclub.

•Mr Spriggins reported that : he ana the: secretary had waited upon the traffic., manager re excursion fares and delaying trains. They had not succeeded ,as regards excursion fares, as they could not give an estimate of the probable number likely to attend the races, but Mr Armstrong had kindly consented to delay the North train an hour, viz., from 3.50 to 4.50, and for the South in addition to the ordinary 3.40 train there will be a train leaving a,p 5 p.m. Both late trains will stop to' pick up passengers at the Racecourse. The Garrison Band wrote agreeing to play on the usual terms, and in order to assist the new club they would donate £9 towards the club's funds.—Resolved that the Band be thanked ior their generous donation, and that the band stand be erected in front of the lawn.

At the Tahuna Park Trotting Crib's meeting on D*ec.eniher 2nd, Wilkie male a. successful attempt to, lower,th^traclrecord for a mile, covering the distan-re in 2.16 1-5, a really excellent performance. . . -":'■■ %' ■ : • •■_• . ■'
