WANGANUI CHRISTIAN CONVENTION.

On. Sunday the announcement was made in some of the churches that the Wanganui Christian Convention, similar to that held last year when the Rev Charles Inwtiod was here,, would be held next month, tiie meetings-continu-ing from the 26th to the 29th. Those willing to- offer free accommodation to friends visiting from a distance were asked to intimate the fact. The "committee have been specially fortunate in securing us the special speaker this year the Rev Andrew Allan, of Glasgow. An effort had J>een made to^get Canon Jones, of IVToqre College, Sydney, but owing to his health trip to England his visit to Wanganui this year was considered out of the ques-r tion. In the Rev. A. Allan, however, they will have a high class missioner who is enthusiastically spoken of both as i\ speaker and a bible student, and whose addrcsres on the lines of t!ie Keswick Convention have awakened interest in various parts cf.tho Empire.. Mr Allan is a minister of; the United Freo Church of Scotland, and a member of the Presbytery of Glasgow. .After three most^suceessful^nd fruitful pastorates, seven years ill Johannesburg, cix years in Hull, and threeyears in Glasgow ho is now proceeding"on a mission tour to South Africa, Australasia. India, and America. 'Besides credentials from his own Presl>y/fcery. he is. highly recommended for this work by loading ministers of all the evangelical churches. In addition to his pastorates ho has had four years' work as a special missioner throughout Britain. Among those who wrote -letters of commendation about tlr's eminent evangelist when ho left his church of .1200 members to tako np this special work, we. notice the- names of the late Lord Overtoun, John-McNeil. Dr Duff, of St. George's United Free Church, Glasgow, Rev. J. Stuart Hold-en,, vicar of t St. Paul's Church. Portman Square, London, and the well known Wcsle'yan evangelist, Rev Thomas Cook, who writes a warm letter to the Methodist ''ministers. of South Africa and Australia, which concludes thus. "The Methodivt people need have no hesitation in availing themselves of his services if they are needing tho hcln he can give. I shall regard as ii -~rsonal favour any kindness shown to Mr Allan.";
