Mr Fisher, referring to the proposed ; colonial nominees to the House of Lords says that, while he did not consider; a Council of the Empire an impossiblCj i proposition, any attempt to hurry it would defeat the object of those desfr-' ing closer connection between the different parts of the_ Empire. On the facb of tho cable, ib looked a3 if it were i proposed to allow Australian representation by nominees ■in _ tho Lords. Australians wero not likely to take kindly to such a proposal, seeing that the Lords havo no power to deal with ■ the financial questions. The objection, to nominees in any Hon&o lies in a chango of Ministries being so frequent' in Australia, which niigii- involve a variation of policy in Imperial matters., There would also be a difficulty in securing suitable nominees. The man was not yet born Avho would be free from influence in Imperial London.
