MARTON NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

MARTON, Decamber 8

A general meeting in connection with tho JMarton J3and was held in the Drill Hall on Friday evening last. The main quostion under discussion was the proposed trio to Whangarei It has been finally decided that the Band will not compote, owing to many of the members being unable to get away. Bowling is in full swing in Marton just now, nnd members' of the local club are looking forward with pleasure to their visit to St. John's on Saturdaj' next.

Preparations for the forthcoming annual Christmas tournament are in progress. Mr H Sutaliffe, tho club's champion skip^ has been requested to select o. team to represent Marton at tho Christmas tournament. Other members of the club who intend to take part are requested to place their names on tbo board, for selection on or before tho Ifith December.

Matches for pairs and singles will hs commenced next week, nominations for which are to be in by the 12th December. The entrance fee has been fixed at 2s each, and the players will be classified by tho Match Committee for A and B- toams.

Tho Firo Brigade held their usual monthly meeting on Monday. It was decided to send a team of six men to cdmpete in five events at Auckland in Fobruary. Some two years ago they were successful in Christchurch, winning two or three events, and, if diligent practico counts for anything, they will return with trophies from Auckland It is customary in the Brigade to present members with a medal after fivo_ years' service, and for each successive two years entitles the holder to a bar to be attached thereto.

Messrs Goodall and Miles were each presented with bars.

Tho Spencer Morris Operascope was with us on Monday night. Tfie pictures were remarkably clear and devoid of that irritating flicker. There was only a t>cor housa, but as they intend visiting us again shortly, thero will no doubt be a better attendance.
