PROPOSED GONVILLE AND CASTLECLIFF TRAMWAY.

(To the Editor.)- ---"* Sir/—As one of the promoters of tbovabpyej my own opinion on a few of the ■ points' in explanation of the -position.. as tt now stands may possibly be of ••interest"-to':-residents of the tramway district.-who will be called up6n to.elect a tramway board on Thursday next. Practically nearly every resident wilL. bo entitled to vote, the qualificatioir being residential in addition to free— ( hold. ' - • ■

The new Board will, of course, have a freo hand, conducting its business, deciding all details, method of traction,., appointment of engineer, officers, etc AH that has been done up to the present time tby the promoters of thoTramway Bill (who were nearly all" members of the Gonville Town Board)has beeu entirely preliminary and necessary to the election pi a Tramway Board who will have entire control of ' its own affairs. •■•>••■ : Although a route has been proposea. the Board will have the .power to alter or extend this route anywhere within the district as they consider advisable. Although a defined route is outlined on'tho plan of the Tramway District,, this need not bo-strictly adhered to. The Board may alter, extend, or curtail the proposed scheme within thedistrict's boundaries, as. tliey considerbest to serve th,e district as a whole. Personally, I think the new Board' should, for the purpose of providing and* installing a payable service., decide oitr tho routs or routes that will serve as J^ much as possible of the resident'al portion of the district. Of one thing 1 am certain, that with an efficient train, service in operation, Gonville will in a "shorfc 'time attract the greater portion.- " of the new settlement, that.is: continu— . ally taking place in the various suburbs.—l am, etc., > A. G. BIGNEIL.
