THE DON.
(Per Press Association.)
NELSON, December 8
The ship Don, referred to in a London cable as posted overdue, left the London docks on the sth of August, and is thus 125 days cut. She is commanded by Captain Hicks, and is consigned to Levin and Co., Ltd.. Welling- . ton .and Nelson, with a very largo gen'cral cargo. Tho consig ops aro urianxious, as trips by sailers of 140 days aro not unknown- in this port. It is pointed out that the barque Gladys, which recently arrived at Wellington from Liverpool, left tho samn time as tho Don, and mado the passage in 122 days. She encountered light winds, but must have had a clear run on tho west coast of England, while the Don may have encountered baffling winds in tho English Channel. Th? Don is. heavily laden and very dcop, and if she .made- a passage even in 140 days, it would not be altogether unusual under frequently prevailing conditions.
