WANGANUI ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY.
Tho programme to be given on Friday next at the final concert of the season by the Oi^chestral Society, includes works of great attractiveness. The "Unfinished Symphony" of Schubert is perhaps the most popular symphony ever written. -Of recent years it has, perhaps, been supplanted by the pathetic Symphony of Tschaikowslcy, but as an example of pure beauty in mnsic it is, and perhaps will always remain unrivalled^ , The two minor pieces of Sir Edward Elear's, "The Song of the Night" and "Tho Song of the morning;," haye never beon played before, in Wanganui. These- illustrate the master hand of orchestration characteristic of the great English^ composer. - The programme also includes the "Fidelio" Overture of Beethoven— ono of the' three overtures he wrote, for his only opera,—"Two Spanish' Dance's," by Moszkowski, and tho everwelcome Tannhauser march of Wagner: Madamo Briggs will sing, as also will - Mr C. H. Stephens, whose singing of the "Songs of"the Wren" at the last orchestral concert will be remembered with pleasure. Heusvill have the advantage of accompaniment by Mr ■ Leslio Peck at tho piano. All those who appreciate good music should support the Orchestral Society, and it would appear that .the^-forth'--coming concert-Vi.il not he, inferior to tho others given by the Society.
