WELLINGTON. December 9
Ono of the men believd to have been concerned in the' recent highway robberies was recognised by a victim going into an hotel last niglit. The police were- summoned and bagged two offenders, ono only after a long chare through tho streets. A man named Dorlacj tried to imitate the robbers on his own account last night, by snatching away a watch and chain, but tho victim resolutely pursued him, cornered him, and, with assistance, secured him.
Two men named William Noal and John McCormick, who were arrested yesterday on £ charge of assault and robbery, were before the Court to-day and remanded to the 16th December.
DUNEDIN, December 9
Andrew. Running, master of the steamer Dorset, pleaded guilty to three charges of employing seamen without entering into an agreement, and was fined 5s and costs on the first charge and convicted and ordered to pay costs on tho other charges. * The evidence showed .that stress of weather prevented tho signing of the articles.
NAPIER, December 9
Samuel Beswick and William Boult appeared at the Court to-day charged with stealing .44 head of cattle from Runanga station, Tarawera, valued at £193. A man named Brewer was also arrested at Tnupo on a charge of being implicated. From information availablo it appears that Reed and Keene, owners of the station, left on a trip to England in. February, and gave power of attorney to Mr Beere, solicitor, Wellington, Beswick being left in chargo of the. station. 'Beere paid a visit to tho station, . and as a result of information received he communicated with the police. Detective Hill journeyed to Tarawera, -assing en route a'mob of cattle driven by Bonlt, who was nlaeed under arrest, together with Beswick. Other charges are pending. Accused were remanded. Boult being allowed boil in two sureties of £2-50 each and self £100.

There was a stickihg-up case at Ni.reaha last, nigbt. Mr Dowden, manfifror of the co-operative store, -and two directors of the company, were_ in a sitting: room, when a man with his face covered witlr a mask entered, a revolver in each hand. He- ordered Dowden. who was nearest the door, to hold up his bands. Dowden app-oached the man—who threatened to ehont—and knocked the revolver aside. The man then retreated to. the kitchen, and Dowden. asking, one of the others to o-nard the"door, rang-up the police in Eketnhuna, While, doing so the man decamped. Constable Gr^y went out and ibis morning arrevted a.young man of ab6ut 93 Tears of age. .named Alwood, m EketabiT-a.
