BY FRANK MORTON.
There are not many pleasure resorts round Wellington; but there are some of the most delightful walks in Australasia, if that form of exercise appeals to you. Yesterday I walked from Day's Bay into the Hutt. The day nvaci perfect, and the country looked ■superb. One easily understands.how vthe charm of the place gets possession of tho people that live out there. I know ."no other valley in Australasia that looks so much like- an English 'Countryside, Then the climate is fine and equable, with a; certain suave softness in it that we never get in Wellington—a climate to make the most bilious man soberly glad. That, I supvpose, is why the climate of the Hutt delights newspap:r men, politicians, . stockbrokers, and other such world- ■• weary souls. on<}3 a man becomes conscious of his liver, a fine climate is of - great assistance to him. A harsh climate insensibly breeds a certain dourness in a man. That is -why the average Scottish Highlander is as stern and hard as the Grampians. The folk in sunnier climea are genial and_^ gay. Even tropic heat gi^es a certain exhilaration" to the blood. That is why there's more hcspitality in Auckland -than in liivercargill, and more in Brisrbano than in Auckland. ''Lord!" I heard a Hutt man say a few moments .ago, "if one could only huve the Bris--foane people with this climate!"
