AN INTERESTING EXHIBIT.
In the case in the ethnological roo;a containing the Maori war weapons is a towliatewha. or Maori wooden battleaxe, which is the only one of its kind in New Zealnd as far as is known. It is on tin side wall of the case near to the long-handled Maori axe. Thß head of the towliatowha is nicely carved and of a peculiar shape. When Captain Cook visited the islands he found the wooden axes of the same sliane as the one mentioned, but since his time they have entirely disappeared and are now very rare.
