PERSONAL.

Mr Justice Chapman arrived in town yesterday, and is staying at Foster’s Hotel. His Honour is to preside over the civil sittings of the Supreme Court. A well-known business man of Christchurch, Wm. McClea, draper, died suddenly on Sunday night at about 11 o’clock. Deceased arrived in Christchurch about 29 years ago.

The late Princess Waldemar was generally considered as the cleverest woman in Royal circles. The newspapers bear testimony to the active part she took in promoting an improvement in the relations of Russia, France, and Britain. The German newspapers often assailed her. The Kaiser admired her wit, but considered her an intriguer.
