WANGANUI CEMETERY.
In reply to representations on behalf of the Wanganui Cemetery trustees regarding the leasing of a portion of the present cemetery for building sites, Mr Hogan has received the following reply from the Minister for Internal Affairs: "As long.as the land in question is reserved for cemetery purposes, it could not be leased except for short terms. If, however, the area in question is not required for burial purposes, it is suggested that possibly the best course to adopt Mould be to apply to the Lands Department to change the purposes of the portion of the reserve in question, and thereupon tip whole matter could be considered. If the land is not required for burial purposes, the question will then arise as to whether it should be made an .endowment for some local purpose, or sold and the proceeds expended in the purchase or maintenance of another cemetery for the Borough of Wanganui."
