£500 LOST o ■«£». Several hundreds of the readers of the " Chronicle " employ domestic servants, or casual labour about their houses or in the gardens. Such work is now attended with very exceptional risk of loss to every employer. Since Ist January, 1909, when the new Worker's Compensation for Accidents Act came into force, each employer is liable for accidents causing either death or permanent disablement up to £500. In the former case the employer is also liable for medical and funeral expenses. Temporary disablements., such as broken limbs, cuts, burns, or scalds, have also to be paid for. As the law now stands it is unsafe to employ anyone in any work for even half-an-hour, unless arrangements have fust been made with a good accident insurance office, to protect the employer against these very serious risks. In most cases similar to those mentioned, MR, H. H. THOMPSON (Victoria Avenue, Wanganui), Manager of the Norwich and London Accident Insurance Association, is prepared to fully protect the employer against hi° risks, for a premium of ten shillings a year. If you cannot conveniently call on him you should write, in which cpse you will be held fully covered from the date of the postmark on your letter. The NORWICH and LONDON is the oldest purely accident office in New Zealand, and all claims that arise have Mr. Thompson's special attention. A premium of ten shillings a year will protect any small farmer against his risks. THE VALTJE OF PATENTS. The U.S. Commissioner of Patents stated if a patent is worth anything it can, if properly managed, easily be sold for from £2000 to iEiC/,000.
