HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT

WELLINGTON. December 6. The High Commissioner's cable on the 4th December, read as follows:— The mutton market is very dull. The average price for Canterbury is 3 7-8 d; North Island 3fd. Large "supplies of Dutch mutton are coining forward, arid are selling at from 4d to" 4^d. English ewes are being marketed at 3^d. There is a dull sale for all lamb, and the market is weak. Canterbury averages 3|d; other New Zealand brands 3|d. The beef market is weak, with no change in prices. New Zealand hinds 3^d, fores 3d. There is a good demand for butter at reduced prices. Buyers are holding back, expecting prices to go lower. Supplies are increasing. The average price for choicest New Zealand is 115s; Australian 112s; Danish 112s, and Siberian 109s.

The cheese market is quiet and slightly weaker. The average price for the finest New Zealand is 565. ri?he hemp market is quiet, but firm. Good business has bren done in New Zealand hemp at last quotations. Good fair on .snot £28 10s, fair £27 ]os. JanuaryMarch shipment £28 and £27. The Manila hemp market is weaker, as a result of the heavy arrivals. The week's output of Manila was 25,000 bales.'

Peas.—The market is firm owing to the reduced supplies. Spot demand is good; also to arrive New Zealand partridge peas 54s por 5041bs

Messrs Murray. Roberts and Co. have received the following: wool market cablegram from their London agents, Messrs Sanderson. Murray and Co., dated 2nd December, 1909:—

Sales have closed firm, 3(J0O bales beir.ijr held over.

The market shows no material change except for coarse to medium crossbred, which has advanced 5 per cent.
