SYDNEY, December 11. j Representatives of the Gas Employerr,' Union interviewed the Strike Congi ess and, it is understood, agreed to abide* by the decision of the Congress, which U not in favour of .the gasmen coming out. The Government threaten to deal severely with the leaders of the gas employees if the city is plunged in darkness. Tho Railway Department has declined to provide the usual special to bring th'» English mails from Albury. jt is stated that the miners' mines nro yielding about £1,000 weekly towards the strike funds, and contributions from other sources are increasing. Tho Sydney Meat Preserving Works have dosed, owing to want of coal, and GO3 employees are idle. Reports from all sides indicate a shrinkage- of trade and shortening of hands. Tim condition of Newcastle trade is particularly bad. Owing to the shortening of the train servJeo railway tricycles are being utilised in some districts to maintain postal facilities.
