AN ABSENT MEMBER.
WHERE IS ME KAIHAU? So far this session Mr Kaihau, the member for the Western Maori District, has not put in an appearance at ths House. This fact led Mr Parata, the member for the Southern Maori District, to enter an emphatic protest on the subject this morning. " Where is he? " asked Mr Fisher. ' " For all I know," replied Mr Parata, : ''he may be dead and buried." —{Laughter.) —Mr Parata said that what he did know was that Mr Kaihau was not at- ! tending to his parliamentary work. In view of that fact, he hoped that his | honorarium was being stopped. Mr Massey: He will turn up next week. • Mr Parata: For myself, I think the people who stay away like this should | not be returned. Only yesterday two of Mr Kaihau's constituents wanted me to look after -.heir interests." Amid ] iaughter, Mr Parata added that he ; thought Mr Kaihau's honorarium should be divided between Dr Te Rangiheroa and himself.
