OUR TROUBLED CONTEMPORARY.
Argument is interesting go long as ona's adversary gives evidence of possessing at least some degree of com-* mon-sense. So soon, however, as child** ishnesj makes it appearance one feels that self-respsct demands withdrawal from what must degenerate into p, farce. We are led to this observation by a perusal of the " Herald's " latest Socialistic effusion. In, the course of tho article in question, .which appeared last evening, the" Herald " says: "But to bo logical the ' Chronicle ' ought to urgo the abolition of all State monopoly. Then it would have to run its own railway line to Turakina and Wellington, and keep its own police force tramping up and down in front of its own office,. The ' Chronicle ' knows ail theso things, of course, but it seems to take a pleasure in assuring the people that it is too thick-headed to grasp them." If the "Herald" will "talk senso" we shall be happy to discuss any subject with it, but our time and spaco prevent excursions into the realms of nonsense.
