OWNERS' INTENTIONS.
(United Press Association- Copyright.) SYDNEY, December 12. Mr. Hughes, M.H.R., states that he has been informed on good authority that tha northern proprietors have decided not to open their mines before February sth, and every proposal for settlement before that date will bo refused.
Som owners deny that any such decision has been arrived at.
Enough coal has "Been secured to keep the city gas going till the middle <:f January. The Gas Company have given their employees till noon to-day to deride if they will unload the company's coal.
A meeting cf the Newcastle wharf labourers arrived at a similar decision to the Sydney Union. Mr. Peter Bowling, addressing a mosting of Kurrikurri waterside workers, said that they must come out. That was th-3 only way to secure, a settlement.
A report from the Director of Labour shows that at the end of _ November nearly 9500 were idle in various trades other than the mines. Since then the number has b:en greatly increased.
