Genius, who won the Maiden Plate at the Christchurch Racing Club's meeting on Saturday, is an Atistralianbrecl three-year-old, and is a half-broth er to Mundoie, who won the Suburban Handicap at the Australian Jockey Club's spring meeting. He is held under lease by Mr H. Portland from F. Holmes, who purchased the horse when he visited Randwick with Pilot.
The bookmakers who took out licenses to bet at the Chiistcburc'.i Racing Club's meeting on Saturday went "on strike" when they discovered the position which had been allotted to them. They were not operating on the first race, but a consultation with the stewards resulted in a better stand being conceded, and business was commenced on the second race, after which everything went smoothly.
