HIGH COMMISSIONER'S OFFICE.
There was considerable discussion this evening in regard to the expense of the High Commissioner's: Office, and the salary of Mr Donne was specially singled out by Mr Hogg for the subject of a motion'for reduction by £T. During the discussion the Prim© Minister twitted his erstwhile colleague with complaining of what he had himself assisted in bringing about. "I am very sorry." Sir Joseph AVard said, "that the hon. gentleman should find it necessary to criticise himself." The fact that the amendment was moved by Mr Hogg did not assist it and a member in speaking after the division (which gave the Government a majority of seven) said that if any other member had moved the amendment, it would probably have been carried. A report is current that the. Government intend to make an attempt to restore the salary of £400 to the Hon W. P. Reeves as Financial Adviser in London, which was struck out a fortnight ago on tho motion of Mr Massey.
