WANGANUI TROTTING CLUB.
CONCLUDING DAY
The Wanganui Trotting Club weio favoured with fine weather on Saturday for tho concluding day of their meeting, but there was a very poor attendance of the public. The tote, investments were not heavy. With the exception of one race the fields were small. The Club is deserving of sym pathv for the lack of support given it The Garrison Band again gave a fine programme. Following are the results of the races:—
TRIAL HANDICAP, of 25 soys, 1* miles. A. C. Bishop's br.f. MARAE MANU, 4yrs, by King George—Wilkin mare, 15sec (G. A. Pricei) I 3. Butcher's blk.m. SQUIB, ISsec. 2 A. Brown's b.g. BELLMORE, 24secs y Also started—Viva R 24sec, .and Santa Claus 20sec. This race proved an easy thing for Marae Manu, who trotted well, and was in front after going half a mile. Viva R. started well, but then broke up and finished last. Squib shaped nicely, but had no chance with the winner, who was well handled. Time 4.37.
ARAMOHO HANDICAP, of 25 soys, distance, 1^ miles. W. H. Atkins b.g. KING GEORGE, Electioneer—Vim, S2T 1 A. Winship's br.c. LONSDALE, 17sec 2
R. Bond's b.m. ELECTRESS, 30 sec
Also started—Mariner (20sec.) King George overtook Lonsdale at the threequarter mile post, and shortly after passing the mile overtook Mariner and then Electress. At the mile and a quarter, Ekctress again came at King George and caught him, but a good race resulted in King George winning by two lengths. Time, 3.44. TRADESMAN'S HANDICAP, of 60 soys, distance 2 miles. H. F. Nicoll's b.c. HAROLD ROTHSCHILD, 3yrs, Rothchild— Harold Rest, 14sec. ... .■ 1 W. C. Hird's b.m. MISS NGAPARA 17sec 2 Taiaivhio Te Tail's ROCKWOOD, llsec 3 The only starters. Miss Ngapara maintained a lead of a couple of lengths up to the half mile, Rockwood being far in the rear. Harold Rothchild then came up to the leader, but the latter drew away again to about 3 lengths. Approaching the mile and a half, Harold Rothchild made a. good spurt an<l overtook Miss Ngapara, and when less than half a mile from home, was leading by over a length. Coming on the outside round the bend Miss Ngapara got even, but broke, and Harold Rothchild won by 4 to 5 lengths. The third horse was very far behind. Time, 5.34?.
TRAMWAY HANDICAP, of 30 soys;
distance, 1 mile. John Exley's b.m. GLENORA, 4yrs,
General Tracey—Duke, llsec. .. 1 J. Butcher's blk.m. SQUIB, 20sec. - 2 Jas. McKewan's LADY H., scr. .. 3
This race had to be re-run. At the first attempt Glenora broke a shaft just at starting, and permission was given to ride. The other horses did not quite finish the course, but it was r-s«n that Squib had too much handicap for Lady H. Some further delay was caused through Bes'aue's sulky getting a wheel buckled. Another machine was requisitioned. Besique retired shortly after starting. At the mile, Glenora had dropped back, but Lady H. had not gained perceptibly on Squib. Glenora
then made a grand _run and was fast overtaking Squib, juady H. was. also closing up, but was still far behind. A good finish between Squib and Glenora resulted in the latter winning by about six lengths. Time, 2.41.'
EASTBROOK HANDICAP, of 30 soys; distance 1^ miles. H. F. Nicolls b.c. ST. SWITHIN, 3yrs, Hothchild—Queen V., Bsec.
(A. Pringle) 1 A. C. Bishop's BY.f. MARAE MANT7, 20se2 (A. Price) 2 The only starters. St. Swithin was still far in the rear when the mile post was approaches, but there Marae Manu was fast overhauled, and at the mil e and a quarto" St. Swithin was leading. Marae Maau made a very game effort and stuck to the other horse, the latter winning !>y a length and a half. Time, 3.51 1-5.
BALLANCE STAKES of 35 soys, distance li miles. C. W. McCarthy's b.g. MARINER, aged, General Tracey—Doly, 20 sec 1
J. D. Smith's br.m. PIHAMA, 6yrs, 28sec. ;... 2 A. Winship's br.c. LONSDALE, 3yrs, 17sec 3 Also started—Receiver (lOsec), MLs3 Ngapara (17sec), Phil (15sec), Te Awahuri (9sec), and Rockwood (14sec). This was the largest field and the best race of the day. Rockwood. shortly after the start dropped back to last. Lonsdale also lost ground, but, on coming into the straight, was running next to Mariner and Pihania. Receiver was coming on well, but at the mile the order of the leading horses was still the same. Mariner was close on Pihama, but the latter got away to four or five lengths from her. Mariner again came on fast and a good finish took place, Mariner getting past the judge a length or two ahead of Pihama, with Lonsdale a length bahind, Receiver following very close. Time, 4.7 2-5. FAREWELL HANDICAP of 25 soys; distance 1 mile. Goodger and Higginson's b.g. KALGOORLIE, by Coolgardie, 4yrs, 10 sec 1 R. M. Coates' b.m. PIERROTTE, 7yrs, 6sec 2 R. Bond's b.m. ELECTRESS, 6yrs, 17sec 3 Electress was passed at the quarter mile by Kalgoorlie, and a little further on by Pierrotto. Pierrotte was overhauling Kalgoorlie but the latter had too much start and he got home with four or five lengths to spare. Time, 2.34 3-5.
