The Arapawa and Huia are due from Wellington to-day. ■The Nairnshire is due at Wellington early this morning. The Anchor Company's new. steamer Kaitoa, which arrives here this afternoon, is a similar vessel to the Waimea, but smaller. She is; a twin-screw steamer of 303-69 tons gross, and 117.66 tons net, and was built by Messrs Mackie and Thompson, shipbuilders, of Govan, Scotland, to plans supplied by the Anchor Company. She is constructed of steel to Lloyd's Al class. Her dimensions are as follows—Length between perpendiculars, 130 ft. i beam, 22ft. 6ih.; depth, moulded, 9ft. The Kaitoa has two large hatches, with two steam winches at the fore hatch. There are special gear and derricks for the rapid handling of cargo and coal. She is fitted with steam steering gear and a steam windlass. The electric light is installed throughout.
