THE "ROTOTAWAI" ROMNEY MARSH FLOCK.
The flock, the property of W. E. Bidwill, Esq., Wairarapa, New Zealand, is one of the oldest established flocks in the 'Dominion, having been in existence for about 45 years. The wool on these sheep is dome, lustrous, medium fineness, and good length, and is mostly taken by American buyers. The sheep averaged 101b 2oz wool each, and such an average for a pure Romney flock would be "hard to beat anywhere.
The wool always commands keen competition on the London markets, especially among American buyers, and this year (1909) the clip of 150 bales, including locks, &econd pieces, etc., averaged 10.31 d per lb. Messrs Thomas and Cook, who handled the wool in London, reported: "This wool was splendidly bred, good length, and sound in staple, and commanded top price." A feature of the Rototawai shesp is their splendid constitutions. Mr Bidwill is a strong believer in breeding his flock under natural conditions, and absolutely declines tr> hand-feed or pamper them in any way. The flock rams are a treat to see, and when the foregoing facts are remembered, experienced sheep owners do not require to be told that they make the most desirable of sires.
Rams from this hardy, high-class nock are for sale by Dalgcty and Co.. Ltd., at all their branches throughout Australasia.
The flock has been dipped in Quibell's powder dip for the past two years, and the condition of the wool is sufficient proof of the satisfactory results obtained. In this connection Mr Bidwill writes under date of March 10th, 1909, as follows, i.e., "Quibell's. dip has given me every satisfaction. It is easily mixed, and is most efficacious in de'troving ticks and lice, and also acts splendidly against the ravages of the fte T." It is significant that the leading flor-k----ti.asters throughout the world who give -Quibell's dips a trial return a unaiiiirous verdict in their favour. ~
