WELLINGTON, December 28. The cricket match between the Old Boys of Wellington and Nelson Colleges ended in a win for Wellington by J2B runs. Wellington, in their second innings, made 162 (Deinpsey 62 and Birch .32 not out). Nelson, in their .second innings, scored 59 (Ncale 27).

AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY v. WANGANUI 11. XI.

The match between the above two teams was commenced on the College Ground yesterday in squally weather. Tho Wanganui captain, McDonagh, won the toss from Shepherd, the 'Varsity skipper, and decided to bat. Parker and Holland opened to the bowling of Short and Davy. Runs came fairly fast from the star£. A double change was made in the bowling when the score had reached 30, Shepherd anclJPomeroy going on. The change was effective, as with the score at 34 Shepherd got one past Parker (13), and four runs later Collard (22) was caught in the slips by Killen off Pomeroy. Greig, the newcomer, got six and was then caught in the country (three for 44).Faber and Pepper, by' careful play, got the upper hand of the bowling, and, despite several changes, carried the total to 103, when Faber (30) was bowled by Shepherd. The Collegian had played a most valuable innings, his off-play being his strong point, and his running between tho wickets was very good. Four for 103. The luncheon 'adjournment was then taken.

On resuming Burrett, Jun., accompanied Pepper to the wickets, Taylor and Shepherd bowling. With an addition of three to the score Pepper (25) was splendidly caught by Davy at mid' off. Five for'lCG. The remaining batsmen were easily disposed of. the five wickets adding only 32 runs. The bowling of the 'Varsity team was backed up by good fielding. Taylor, the " colt " of the team, bowled splendidly, and came out with the good average of three wickets for 11 i n.ns. Shepherd, the captain, also ooavl<jd well, securing four wickets at a cost of 10 runs apiece. Pomeroy and Short opened the 'Varsity innings to the bowling of C Hotland and Burrett. The batsmen became aggressive from the start. With tho score at 12 Short was clean bowl«.d by Holland. Davy partnered Pomeroy, runs came at a fair rate. With the to Sal at 41 Pomeroy gave a chance to Parker in the slips off Holland, and the chance was accepted. Pomeroy playrd splendid cricket for his 16, which total would have been considerably larger but for the splendid fielding of the Wanganuites. Shepherd came in, but failed to break his " duck," getting lbw to Parker, who had relieved Burnett. Three for 42. Rountree and Day carried the total to 50, when Davy was snapped up by Pearce. The wicket at this stage of" the game was bumping badly. Six minutes later Parker beat Rountree. Oolvile was bowled first ball. Six for 56. Rowe and Taylor were now associated, and carried the total to 76, when Pearco caught Taylor off Greig. Taylor batted very nicely for his runs. [ Snven for 76. The afternoon tea ad- ! journment was then taken. On resuming McLean and Ro\,e carried the total to 99, when Swan, who had relieved Parker, beat McLean. Killon and Bowman were soon disposed of, and the innings closed for 103 runs. The ■ bowling of Swau, Holland, and Parker was very good, and was backed up by excellent fielding. The match will be resumed this morning at 11 a.m. sharp. This evening the visitors will be the guests oP the Wanganui Cricket Association at Pollard's Midgets. The scores are as follows: — .
