MEAT EXPORT TRADE.
PRECAUTIONS AGAINST TRUSTS
(Per Press Association.)
WELLINGTON,
May 2 8
The Minister of Agriculture hopes soon to be in a position to announce that steps are being taken in New Zealand under the anti-Trust legislation of last session. Under the Act the Minister is given absolute power to prevent any firm whatsoever from operating in the country, and his decision is not subject to challenge on any ground at all. No firm may carry on the meat export business under a penalty of £2000, and a contributing penalty of £400 per day unless licensed by the Minister. Up to the present only one application for a license has been refused, bat the most careful enquiries are being made in various quarters.
