ELLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES.

A big crowd witnessed the semifinal gallops for the Auckland Winter Meeting on Tuesday morning. Ail the grass tracks were closed. The sand and tan rinks were extensively used, gays a northern paper. Hurry Up and j-drimar wera stretched out over five furlongs, no time being taken. Escape! was in front of General Stephen over 6 furlongs, in 1.20 1-5. All Talk was not ridden out to register a mile in 2 minutes on the i tan. The track was heavy. Kilbeg- | gan and Entente Cordiale finished in ! that, order over six furlongs. The last half mile was run in 52 2.55. Sleight of Hand and Reformation covered six furlongs in 1.22 3-5. Comedy Prince and Independence strode over a middle distance, finishing as above. Waimai put in two solid circuits soundly. The favourite for the Great Northern Steeplechase sweated

a good deal, but is thoroughly wound up.

The free striding Elate bolted away from Step over the concluding stage of a five furlong gallop in 1.6 2-5.

Llansonor had the better of Penella over six furlongs in the moderate time of 1.24 3-5.

Mountain Gold pleased better than his stable mate Scottish Knight, over three-quarters of a mile in 1.21 2-5.

Isingarch fluttered over four furlonga, alone, in 52 3-5, Te Ore going a furlong further in 1.8.

Blue a::d Black gave Glucian no chance over a middle distance.

Fabriquette beat a companion pointless from the five furlong posr, in 1.6. The going suited the mare.

Swastika easily held a companion over a round in 28. This gelding has improved of late.

Marconi and Oakley had a good set to over a sound circuit in 2.8, finishing as above.

Parisian Diamond was pulling over General Advance at the fln.su of sr furlongs in 1.21 3-5.

Tenacious had Meltchikoff to assist at the end of a mile gallop, 1.51 l-o.

Te Onga, looking nice and mellow, put a couple of solid circuits past by himself.

J. Roach schooled Ditto in the centre. The mare gave a perfect exhibition of clean jumping, and. then covered a round strongly.

Art led Kauri King over a couple of the big battens, and then Kauri King covered a circuit' of the sanri alone.

Mistee and Orpheum each worked separately, showing plenty of condition and freedom of action.

Tptara Jack showed to more ad-1 vantage than a companion over the battens. Peneton pleased better than Monopole over four of the schooling battens. Benzine, alone,: jumped six of the big battens, fencing rather high.

Colonel Soult led Cynic and Paraoa over four of the big hurdles, registering the good time of 1.3 from hurdle to hurdle. The two first named then alone galloped about a mile soundly, and Paraoa joined Art and rah seven furJongs, both all out, in 1.35 and together. " :

Keystone put in two useful circuits alone, being right out at the finish i while the returned Munster ran ? mile alone in 1.51 1-5. *

Troublesome made friends by thi way he negotiated (he fences over the hill, leading Sir Fisher and Nn Surrender in the final stages over the stone wall into the course ana over the sod wall water-jump, fin ishing over the stone wall in the good time .of 2.56 2-5. Sir Fisher gave a very good display for a beginner over the country, which was new to him.

The hunter, Grey Star, and another, covered the same course; the latter was tiring badly at the end of the journey.
