TRIBUTE TO. WANGANUI RIVER

SIR JEHANGIR OF INDIA. PORTLAND (Oregon), March 19. Sir Jehangir H. Kothari, Kt., 0.8. E., of Karachi, Sin province, India, who is making' a brief visit with friends in Portland, is a confirmed traveller. This is his sixth trip around the world, and when he makes the circuit it isn’t as the crow flies. Eskimos in the North and queer bumboat men in odd ports of the world are acquainted with him. Sir Jehangir belongs to the ancient faith of Zoroaster, which has only 100,000 true followers. His people, who have never crossed with any other race, moved from Persia a long time ago to Karachi, India, and there have mantained their racial purity inviolate. He was knighted by the British government for service to the empire during the World War. This is his fourth visit to Portland. He says there is only ond river in the world, the Wanganui of New Zealand, that has the majestic beauty of the Columbia, and that he had to ascend by boat rather than by highway. Sir Jehangir is now a man in his sixties. He is only 5 feet 4 inches in height, but robust and full of strength.
