A FORGED CHEQUE

POSTAL CLEBK REMANDED. Received June 10. 10.15 p.m. SYDNEY, June 10. George Gardiner was remanded to the 20th inst. on a charge of stealing £BOO, the property of the PostmasterGeneral. This was in connection with the robbery cabled on May 26. Gardiner was a clerk in the Postal Department. [By a smart ruse the N.S.W. Post Department was robbed of £BOO. A man apparently acquainted with the routine obtained a pay cheque of the Engineers Department, and it is alleged forged a signature. The cashier got the cheque counter-signed, and another official, without arousing suspicion, cashed it. The man disappeared, and has not been traced.]
