BIG STEAMERS AT CASTLECUFF ONE BERTHED, ANOTHER COMING The berthing of tho Union Company’s steamer Kaiwarra at the Castlecliff wharf yesterday is of interest for the reason that it marked a rare appearance of a Union boat at the port, and also the arrival of the largest intercolonial trader that has berthed, tho vessel’s gross tonnage being 3500 tons. Up to the time of the Kaiwarra ’s arrival, the Omana, 2523 gross tons, had the distinction of being the largest intercolonial trader to visit Castlecliff. So far three overseas vessels have berthed at Castlecliff, the Hannah, Tregenna and Scottish Monarch, the latter lof 5600 gross tons, being tho largest (vessel to come inside. At the end of this month the first C. and D. steamer will berth. This is the Port Augusta, 4063 gross toi.j. When the port is further developed this company will send larger vessels ig, two steamers of Diesel engine typo bow being under construction to work Wanganui and similar ports.
