PATEA
PERSONAL At the annual meeting of the Patea Harbour Board on Tuesday, Mr A. T. Christensen re-elected •chairman for the 23rd. successive year. Members spoke of his interest and enthusiasm and his able direction of the harbour works and the board’s policy. Mr I. Jones is at present on annual leave, and Mr J. Baker, of Hawera, is acting-manager of the Bank of Australasia during his absence. Mr A. Paterson, of Wellington, arrived last night and is staying with his uncle, Mr AV. Paterson. BOY SCOUTS At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Patea Boy Scouts’ Association, discussion centred on the number of Boy Scouts to attend the Melbourne Jamboree. The Scoutmaster (Mr H. G. Pauling) stated that a num ber had entered their names as desirous of going, but second-class and firstclass Scouts would be the only ones qualified to attend. It was thought by the meeting that the funds raised by the forthcoming con'cert would enable more Scouts to go than had entered their names, and the others should be encouraged to work- hard to enable them to go also. A fund had been established and lodged in the Post Office for this especial purpose, and this already amounted to well over £2O. Further discussion along the lines of means of raising funds by the committee was held, after which the meeting rose.
