Story, senr. • * ♦ • Mrs. Ernest Land, of New Plymouth, who is visiting Wanganui for the Reilly—Moris wedding, is the guest, of her sister, Airs. H. C. Dow, Campbell Street. • • « * Miss Alary L. Craig, who left Wellington recently, is one of the many New Zealanders who have travelled in interesting places. Trained at Wellington Hospital, Aliss Craig was sulfmatron at Otaki Hospital under Aliss Pownall. She left New Zealand in 1915 in a hospital ship and subsequently served with the Queen Alexandra nursing staff on active service, and in the hospital ship Carisbrook Castle. After that she was attached to the Army of Occupation at Constantinople. For some years, until she came home on. holiday leave recently, Miss Craig held the position of Director of Halls of Residence at the American Girls’ College at Constantinople, and she has now gone to take up a siimlar position at the American Girls’ College at Psychiko, Athens. HITHER AND THITHER A Coming Lecture. Air. Edward Simpson, of Wellington, who recently wrote an interesting article on “How Old is Art?” which appeared in a Wellington paper, will visit Wanganui this coming week-end to stay at the Friends’ School. AirSimpson will give a lecture on Sunday 'evening at 7 p.m. in the schoolroom, to which friends and anyone interested are invited to attend. The talk will be illustrated with prints and lantern slides. Coming-of-age Party. A jolly little party was given on Tuesday evening by Airs. W. E. Davis and Airs. J. Wilson, in honour of the coming of age of Miss Edna Nixon, of Aramoho. The evening was spent in games and musical items. Among those present were: Air. and Airs. W. EDavis, Mr. and Airs. L- Nixon, Air. and Mrs. J. Wilson, Airs. H. W. Hulme, Alisses Edna Nixon, Peggy Davis, Thelma Wilson; Air. W. Davis, junr., Air. Ellis Davis, Alasters E. Davis and L. Davis. Woman Astronomer. The honorary degree of M-A. has been bestowed by Oxford University on Ethel Bellamy, the astronomer, in recognition of her valuable work during 30 years at the University Observatory. A niece of Bellamy, the distinguished scientist and astronomer, she has made a name for herself beyond the frontiers of her own country. She has been lent to other observatories, to that of Rome, among others, and the Pope awarded her a medal in special recognition of her contribution to the profress of astronomy. A Card Afternoon. On Tuesday Airs. F. Beaven was hostess at an enjoyable card afternoon given to assist the funds of the Gonville Croquet Club. Abases of red and yellow chrysanthemums and pretty hanging ferns were artistically arranged in the room. Airs. F. Wood was the lucky winner, the consolation prize going to Airs. J. Kay. The cake competition was won by Airs. Winter, Alma Road (No. 41). Among those present were:—Alesdames x Beaven, B. Hoar, W.
