81-MONTHLY MEETING HELD STATUS OF DEACONESSES DISCUSSED The bi-monthly meeting of the Wanganui Presbytery was held in St. Andrew’s buildings, Marton, on Tuesday morning. Th© moderator, Rev. 1. M. Murray, presided and conducted devotional exercises. Sympathy was expressed with the Rev. E. T. King (Taihape), in the recent death of his mother. Th© Rev. Dr. Fraser (Levin), was welcomed as a visitor to the presbytery and associated. The clerk (Rev. D. Mclvor), intimated that the next in turn to occupy the moderator’s chair was the Rev. E. T. King. He was accordingly elected moderator for the ensuing twelve months. Presbytery went into committee to consider the report of a sub-commit-tee on the work and status of deaconesses in the church. Regulations wore framed and approved for presentation to tho General Assembly to guard the interests of the deaconess in any appointment that a congregation might wish to make or terminate; also a recommendation that the good work being performed by women workers should be brought more fully to the notice of the church; and further, the. deaconesses engaged in Maori mission work were to bo given seats in the Maori sessions, along with the native elders. Opinions were expressed that deaconesses might he of groat service in country as well as in city districts, though the form of training at present given might need to be revised. Presbytery appointed the induction of th© Rev. J. Hubbard, M.A . 8.D., to take place in St. Andrew’s Chureh, Palmerston North, at 7.30 p.m. on Juno 27. The moderator of <Presbytcrv is to preside and induct, the Rev. J. S. Pate to preach the sermon. The Rev. J. R. Blanchard will address the minister and congregation. A request from the office-bearers of tho. congregation at Bulls for permission to borrow £3OO for repairs in the event of a certain property being presented to tho congregation was referred to a sub-committee of tho Fcilding and Marton ministers and elders with power to act. Th© Life and Work Committee of th© church wrote to ask an opinion regarding the appointment of another Evangelist in succession to the Rev. J. Bissett.
