A WITNESS APPROACHED. . THE JUDGE’S REMARKS. [ Per Press Association. J HAMILTON, June 7. An intimation that a Crown witness had been approached by a certain person and asked to modify his evidence at the second trial to-day of John Atirau Asher, hotelkeeper, Tokaanu, who was charged w r ith false pretences, was made by Mr. Justice Fair at the Supreme Court at Hamilton to-day prior to the commencement of the second trial. At the first trial the jury disagreed. His Honour said that conduct of such kind was a serious breach of law, punishable by a long term of imprisonment, constituting wilful interference

vith the course of justice. He urged he Crown Solicitor to have the matter
