FORTUNE SMILES
LABOURER’S LEGACY AX ESTATE IN IRELAND It is a faraway cry from ’Western Southland to Northern Ireland. Yet there is at least one connecting link, says the Southland Times. Ho is Mr. Thomas Dubois, who, a native of Ireland, has since 1922 been living in the Tuatapcre district engaged in labouring work, such as fencing, ditching and draining. After serving in the Great War, he camo to New Zealand, and in a hut on the banks of the Waiau River ho made his home. A short time ago Mr. Dubois received advice from Belfast that an
[older brother had died without leaving la will, and that, under Irish law. he 'had become the owner of a leasehold [farm in County Down and six large [brick houses vlose to a spinning mill [some eight miles from Belfast, not to [mention some money which is likely to ibo included in the bequest. ’ Mr. Dubois, who is between 50 and [6O years of age, is taking his good fortune very coolly. He has not forsaken his hut on the Waiau, nor has he decided to live a life of leisure on the substantial income which will be derived from his properties. Until Christmas time he will, he says, continue to be a labourer, his immediate task being the construction of drains on a farm. But when the year 1935 dawns he should be well on his way to Northern Ireland to assume the role of landed proprietor.
