Increased activity has prevailed in commercial matters this week, and no less than four Auction Sales have taken place in Town.

Ou Tuesday Messrs. Bothiine & Hunter Sold by Public Auction, a large and varied assortment of London made Furniture, ox ".lobn Macvicar." There wns a numerous attendance of buyers, the bidding was spaiiitod, and every lot put up was disposed of at satisfactory prices. On Wednesday Messrs. Hethuno & Hunter sold by public auction 30 tuns Uliaihftm [slnnd Potatoes, ex Esther, which fet'-hed from 4310 to £11 per ton. They nl.s-i sold the cargo of tlie lirigantiue Marchioness, from Melbourne, and the following are ihe prices wiiich a few of the- lending nrticles fetched : —Ih.ur, Adelaide, *£3I per ton, sugar, Mauritius, .60(1 to i,'.')!) per ton, so/ip, 28s. to 3!)s. per cwt., P'ddes, pints, ss. Oil. to (is. per doz., currants, Od. to 7d. per lh., (igs, ll.il. per lb., Hugo, B}il. per lb., Collins' sinking picks, 375. Od. per doz., f.hovo'j, ')()u. per doz., pick handles, from Os. to 7s. Od. per dozen. On Thursday last,, Messrs. Stuart, Kinross & Co., Sold liy Public Auction, tlio surplus stores of the barque -' Gleaner," There win a fair at'cndance, and the following arc tho prices reatizoil for a few of the articles.
