SYDNEY.

(From the " Empire," Oct. 1.) Is general -business there has been more doing in a few articles, to which -we shall have occaßjon to refer particularly; but for moat import thero is little or uo demand, and compUintß of the goneral dullness of trado aro universal. Spirits. — In our market for spirits wo havo no alteration in prices to notice. Martell's brandy is quoted at 8s Od to 8s for small parcels to the trade, and other good brands 7a9dtoßsSd. Eum is without change, best brands of 80 per cent, o.p. bring still 3s 4d to 8s 5d por gallon. Stocku of geneva aro being gradually reduced, but as yet without any material improvement in prices. Some holdors refuse to Bell unless at an advance upon curreut market . rateß which may be at present quoted nt about 10b Gd per case for best brands of Buitable contents. In othor spirits we have nothing whatever to report, Malt Liquors.— Ale in bulk has exhibited an upward . tendency during tho week, and holders generally have advanced tbeir prices from .8 6d to 5s per hogshead. Bsisb' No. 3 is; now worth £7 ss, and Allsopp's and Marion's £6 15s to £7 per hogshead. Bottled beers are dull of sale. Outside brands of ale aro freely offered at 8a Od to 8s 94 Allsopp's bottled by Byass or Friend are quoted at ( Js (id, and choice brands, in fine condition, from 10s to 10s Cd per dozen. Flour.— The cargo of the Dnn^onald from Valparaiso i» landing in fine condition, and tho bulk of the cargo has been disposed of, but the price has not transpired. We learn that 200 tons have been sold on Melbourno account, and that tho Sydnoy millers have also taken a large part of the cargo. In Melbourne a vigorous attempt to force • up prices has been made and apparently with Bucceas j but lv our own market there has been little or no excitement. NVlth respect to our own harvest prospects our advieeß from tbe wheat-growing districts have latterly indicated an early need of rain to mature the growing crops, and at this present writing there is every appearance of as much as will be requirod. "Wheat imported from England ia held for 10a 6d per bushel, but holdors of Adelaide samples look for a higher figure. Tobacco.— The .principal feature in tho market for this article during the weqk has been the auction sale by Mr "W. Dean, ou Thursday, the Argylo Bond. The s.de comprised, in all, 350 packages, the whole of which wore sold. The samples were, on the whole, very inferior both as rogardß quality und condition, which will account for the low prices realised. The rates obtained ruled as follows : — Aromatic, pounds and half pouuds, ls lid to 2s Gd; Cavendish, 10's and half-pounds, Is ld to ls 7d ; and Negrohead, ls ld to 2s 2d per lb. Bice.— Ths market has been very quiet, and quotations for best samples of Patna are not moro than £20 10b to £21 per ton. , Sngar.— The market has been very quiet, on the whole. Important sales by auction have been attempted duriug the week with small results, and the prices obtained have exhibited little or no alteration in the market. Teas.— The market has baen more animated, and at an important Balo held by Mr W. Dean to day the greater portion of the teas offered found purchasers at prices showing an averago advanco of about 10b per chest on previous obtainable prices. The sale comprised parcels ex Greyhound, Congo, Procymatia, Afrique, and Balder. The samples were numerous and varied much in quality. Prices ranged from £5 for low class teas, to £9 7s 6d for superior qualities. Bags. — Corn socks have been in much request for the Adelaide market, and sales have been made as high as 19s 6d to 208 per doz. There aro only very fow now iv •first hands, but the demand in consequence of tho high rate to which prices have been forced up, has slackened, And during the last days we have not heard of any saleß. Woolpaeks.— These »re in fair demand, and Cs Ud is the price for which full 10 lbs are held. Woolbagging is very / scarce, and it is impossible to give quotations.
