The Hero.— Tho s.B. Hero, CapUin Logan, from Melbourne, via Lyttelton and Dunedin, arrived at Wellington on the Cth at 1 p.m. The Hero left Melbourne on the 23rd ult, arrived at Otago on the 30th, after a pussageof 7 days; left Otago on the 3rd inst, arrived at J.yttelton on the 4th; left on the Oth at 4 p.m. ; und uvrived here as above. Experienced light northerly winds and flno weather up the coast. On arrival in this port the Hero steamed at once alongside the Queen's wharf ; we understand, that this is the only wharf in Now Zealand with sufficient water to allow of the Hero's approaching at low water. She will leave to-day for Melbourne, via Lyttelton and Otago. The Isle of Fuance. — The barque Isle of France, Captain Muir, from Nowcustlo, arrived in port yesterday after a passage of 14 days. She left Newcastle on the 21st, and experienced variable winds throughout the passage, and brings a cargo of coal for the N. Z. S. N. Company. The N.Z.S.N. Co' ss. Ahuiiim. — The Ahuriri, Captain Shuttleworth, left Wellington on the 25th November, at 2 p.m.; arrived at Wanganui on tho 2Gth, at ß a.m.; sailed again on the 28th, at ll a.m.; arrived at Taranaki on the 29th, ut 10 a.m. ; sailed again same day at G p.m. ; arrived at Raglan on tha 3Uth, at - r > a.m. ; sailed again same day at 10 a.m.; arrived at Oiiehunga same day at 5 p.m.; sailed from Onehunga ou the 3rd December, at 7 a.m. ; arrived at Waikato same day at 1 1 a. m.; sailed again same day at 2 p.m.; arrived at Raglan samo day at 4 p.m.; sailed again on the 4th, at 5 p.m.; arrived at Taranaki on tho sth, at 4 a.m. ; sailed again aamo day at 3 p.m. ; arrived at Wanganui on the Gth, at 5 a.m. ; sailed again same day at 4 p.m. Tbo Ahuriri experienced very bad weather to Onehuuga; from thence the weather has been flno. The Ahuriri took a detachment of H.M.s uOth Regiment to Waikato to relieve tho Mth Itcgt. On the sth, when ten miles to tho eastward of Cape Egmont, sighted a Europoan boat ono mile from the land, the crew laying oa their oara. A canoe shortly after came out to them, tho Ahuriri pavo chase, but was unablo to cut them off, tho boat pulling hard iv shore ; when tho steamer could not get nearer in land than safely permitted, the boat lay on her oars again; she was evidently manned by Europeans. A fore and aft schooner was seen three miles in tho oiling. A most wonderful meteor passed over Taranaki and Wangauui at l 2 a.m., on the 4th instant, supposed to have burst over Taranaki, with a noise louder than thunder, arousing every body from their bods In both places. Tho Ahuriri arrived in this port at half-past 5 a.m. yesterday morning.

Tun P., N.Z., and R.M. Go's s.s. Loitn Ashley. — Tho Lord Ashley left Auckland on Saturday tho 3rd instant, at noon, and anchored iv Ahuriri roadstead at 9 a.m. on Monday — making the passage in 45 hours. Experienced flno ivoather to East Cape ; thence to Portland Island (strong southerly breezo. Left Napier on Docember 6th, at 1 p.m., and arrived at Wellington on December 7th at 2.30 p.m., after a passage of 25J hours. Experienced strong southerly broeze Hrst part, latter part calm. Wonqa. Wokga. — AVo see that arrangements have been again entered into between the Superintendent of Auckland r.nd the N.Z.S.N. Company to ran a steamer to the North until the next session of the Provincial Council at the rate of £1200 a year. y
