VOTE FOll COX.

Vote for Cox, TO THE ELECTORS OF WAIPA. A S either through misunderstanding or vulful pmersion of my meaning, I have been much mis-represented,- and, as I conceive it to be of the first importance thut tho elector* of the District of Waipa should have the fullest information before them, when choosing" their representative iv the approaching 1 crisis, I have deemed it best to place before you definitely tho policy which I have already enunciated, and intend to carry out, if elected as your member. Gi;ntlemisN : — I am a centralist, pure and simple. I cannot, and will not consent to the plau proposed of establishing a petty centralism of which Auckland city will be the mainspring , to the injury of the out districts. I believo in one strong Central Colonial Government with ample funds and power supplied to the losal bodies in the couutty settlements. I am an advocate of a liberal .system of Education paid for out of the Consolidated Revenue. At the sacao timo I wJul.l afford every facility for tho impartiag of religion to the children, by their respocme clergy, at suitable seasons. I would have no poll-tax or any species of direct taxation for this purpose. I beliuvo in tho pacific method of the treatment of the natives, which haß been pursued with such success fur the past few years, and which is so necessary for tho welfare and advancement of the Distnet of Waiknto. I shall to the utmost of my ability support the formation of a good road from tho Waipa to Raglan, conjoining with Alexandra on the one side und Ngaruawahia on tho other. 1 consider a great injustice has been done to the foriier settlement by the neglect so long b.iowu to this most neceSB.uy work. I am in favour of every facility beinsj given to bona fide settlers to take up any land that raiy be hereafter opeaec up and acquired on tbe other side of the confiscated boundary. And I think that the Government should be urged t,j make provision that blocks of from 100 to 1,000 acres shall be availuble for settlement to those who otherwise might be unable to compete with large purchasers. 1 shall on every occasion insist upon a fair proportion of the revenuo raised by the Colony being spent within the North Island, and shall advocate a fair adjust- ! merit of the land fund compact of Ibs(j. In conclusion, gcnUonion, I shall go to the lloum 1 , if i cturned by you, the nominee or pledged supporter of no party or clique. So long as otio set of men iv power pursue tko same coarse which I have here marked oat, and cuny out their policy with ability and integrity, so long shall they have my cordial support, but if' 1 am led to boiiove that they are sacrificing tho interests of your district and of tho Colony at large, through motives of expediency or hclf-intorest, they shall meet with my unwavering hostility. Believo me, gentlemen, it shall always bo my study to advance your tiuo interests, and endeavour to bring to boar inthatbehalfsuch influence and industry as I may bo possessed of, and I bolieve, if returned, I Bhall meet you after each session with the fullest consciousness that if J have not been able to catry out all I have promised, I havo at least endeavoured to do bo wilh such earnest perseverance, as to merit your approbation and thanks. ALFRED COX. Vote for Cox.
