Ordered, " That there be laid before this House a return showing—(l) The number of applications received during the year ended the 31st March, 1897, for employment in (a) the Railway Service, (b) the Post and Telegraph Department, (c) the Defence Department; (2) the number of appointments made; and (3) the number of applications now on the books." —(Mr. Lewis.)
