CIVIL SERVICE APPOINTMENTS AND APPLICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT.
Return to.an Order of the House of Representatives dated the 27th October, 1897. Ordered, " That there be laid before this House a return showing—(l) The number of applications received during the year ended the 31st March, 1897, for employment in (a) the Railway Service, (b) the Post and Telegraph Department, (c) the Defence Department; (2) the number of appointments made; and (3) the number of applications now on the books." —(Mr. Lewis.)
Return of Number of Applications for Employment received, and of Appointments made, during the Year ended 31st March, 1897, and of Applications on the Books on the date, 27th October, 1897, in each of the Railway, Post and Telegraph, and Defence Departments.
* Under clause 7 of the Regulations, all applications lapse after being on hand for six months, unless renewed before expiration of that period.
