ORDER OF REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Wednesday, the 12th Day oe October, 1932. Ordered, "That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all matters in connection with defence which may be referred to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Barnard, Mr. Dickie, Mr. Endean, Mr. Hargest, Mr. Healy, Mr. Jordan, Mr. Lee, Mr. Samuel, Captain Rushworth, and the mover." —(Hon Mr. Cobbh.) Thursday, the 13th Day oe October, 1932. Ordered, " That all Petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1931 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session, and that all petitions received during the first session of 1932 be dealt with as if they had been received this session."—(Right Hon. No. 47, Sess. 1, 1932.—Petition of William Cooper Lauder, of Auckland. Praying for the reinstatement of his pension, which he had allowed to lapse. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 30th November, 1932.

Praying for compensation for alleged loss of forty-three days accrued leave whilst m the service oi the Defence Department. . . . , , , ~ • I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to tins petition. 30th November, 1932.
No. 205.—Petition of Gerald Joseph Holt, of Auckland. Praying for pension for his wife and children on account of his war disabilities. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 7th December, 1932.
No. 214.—Petition of John B. Eamsey, of Auckland. Praying for a war pension on account of alleged disabilities sustained on active service. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 7th December, 1932.
No. 12.— Petition of Peter Fitzherbert Toomey, of Eaetihi. Praying for restoration of pension, and compensation. _ I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration, and the Committee recommends that the matter be referred back to the Pensions Appeal Board calling for a full report on the general, nervous, and physical condition of the petitioner, and whether any defects discovered are attributable to his war service. 7th December, 1932.
No. 253.—Petition of Hannah Powell, of Wellington. Praying for an annuity in respect of her late husband's services during the Great War I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 22nd February, 1933.
No. 246.—Petition of Olive Laurie Wilson, of Auckland. Praying for a compassionate allowance in respect of her husband's services in the Defence Force. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 22nd February, 1933.
No. 302,—Petition of Joseph Coyle, of Wellington. Praying for reinstatement of war pension. _ _ I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration, and the Committee desires to express its opinion that the reinstatement of the pension as from the Ist March, 1933, should be given effect to. 6th March, 1933.

No. 295. —Petition of Albert W. J. Shutt, of Dunedin. Praying for light employment as a recompense for a disability allegedly received while undergoing military examination. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 6th March, 1933.
Special Report. I have the honour to report that the members of the Defence Committee desire to place on record their cordial appreciation of the ability, tact, and unfailing courtesy during the session manifested by the Chairman, Mr. Dickie, in the conduct of the business of the Committee ; and the members of the Committee further desire that this resolution be recorded in the minutes of the Committee, and also that it be reported to the House. 6th March, 1933. Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Defence Committee desires to place on record its appreciation of the efficient services rendered by the Clerk of the Committee, Mr. C. Wright, and, further, desires this resolution to be recorded in the minutes of the Committee, and be reported to the House. 6th March, 1933. H. G. Dickie, Chairman.
Final Report. I have the honour to report that during the present session the Defence Committee, consisting of ten members, has held six meetings, the average attendance being five. The business referred to the Committee consisted of eleven petitions, ten of which were considered and reported on, and one deferred. 6th March, 1933. H. G. Dickie, Chairman.
