1938. NEW ZEALAND.

THE REGULATIONS ACT, 1936. (REPORT ON THE WORKING OF THE ACT.)

Presented to both Houses of the General Assembly by leave.

Office of the Attorney-General, Wellington, 3rd May, 1938. The first periodical volume of Statutory Regulations prepared pursuant to the Regulations Act, 1936, was closed on 31st December, 1937. It included the regulations issued up to that date from Ist August, 1936, and comprised 1,058 pages of text, subsequently increased by the preparation of indexes, &c., running to 52 pages. The bound volume has now been issued under the title " Statutory Regulations 1936-7." The second volume, " Statutory Regulations 1938," is now in course of serial issue, the terms of subscription being the same as for the previous volume. As at 31st December, 1937, the subscribers to the publication in serial form were — Copies. The total number of enactments in the 1936-37 volume is 301, of which 82 may be regarded as new matter, 166 as amendments, and 53 as consolidating enactments. The number of previous regulations completely revoked or superseded is 196, the earliest of these having been enacted in 1885. It has not yet been found possible to complete the re-enactment of regulations enacted prior to 1910, or the bringing up to date of later subsidiary legislation, except in particular cases, but this work, with the co-operation of the Departments concerned, is still going forward. During the year 1937 four sets of regulations were reprinted with amendments pursuant to section 7 of the Regulations Act, 1936. H. G. R. Mason, Attorney-General.
