Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives Wednesday, the 7th Day oe July, 1948 Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of nine members, to consider all matters in connection with industries and commerce which may be referred to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Bowden, Mr. Hanan, Mr. Hudson, Mr. R. Macdonald, Mr. Mathison, Mr. Petrie, Mr. Rae, Mr. Watts, and the Mover." —(Hon. Mr. Nordmeyer.) Wednesday, the 22nd Day of September, 1948 Ordered, " That the name of Mr. Petrie be discharged from the Industries and Commerce Committee and that of Mr. Armstrong substituted therefor."—(Hon. Mr. Nordmeyer.)
REPORTS
No. 59—Petition of C. J. Ban, of Wellington Praying- for the grant of a licence to distil whisky. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 21st October, 1948.
No. 36—Petition of the New Zealand Retail Tobacconists' and Hairdressers' Federation, Incorporated Praying for legislation to provide for the registration of all retail sellers of tobacco and cigarettes. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered this petition, and recommends that it be referred to the Government for consideration. I am further directed to report that, in the view of the Committee, the laws affecting the retail sale of tobacco and cigarettes should be amended, strengthened, and enforced. sth November, 1948.

No. 76—Petition of the Dominion Federation op Boot Trades Associations, New Zealand, Incorporated Praying for statutory provision for the registration of bootmakers. I am directed to report that the Committee is of the opinion that the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. J. Mathison, Chairman. 25th November, 1948.
