C. W. RICHMOND.

REPORT. The Select Committee appointed to investigate the charge preferred against Mr. C. W. Richmond by Dr. Featherston, have the honor to report as follows : — That there is no ground whatever for any imputation " that undue pressure has been brought to bear in the Executive by Mr. C. W. Richmond on the Waitara question," and that this Committee without imputing blame to Dr. Featherston, consider Mr. C. W. Richmond's vindication complete. Feed. A. Weld, Chairman. Monday, 22nd July, 1861. Committee met pursuant to notice. Present: — Mr. J. C. Wilson, C.8., Hon. the Speaker, " Renall, Mr. Croshie Ward, " Russell, " Creyke, " Fitzherbert, Mr. Chairman of Committees. " Weld Orders of Reference of July 17th and 18th, 1861, read. Motion made and Question put that Mr. Weld do take the Chair. Agreed to. Moved by Mr. Russell, That Dr. Featherston and Mr. Richmond be requested to attend before this Committee to give evidence at the next meeting, in order that the charge be then defined. Resolved in the Affirmative. Moved by Mr. Chairman of Committees, That as a discrepancy exists between the several reports of the Southern Cross and the Neiv-Zealander, Dr. Featherston bo requested to give his assistance in defining the charge actually made. The Motion being put the Committee divided, when there were — Ayes, 5. JYoes, 3. Mr. Fitzherbert, Mr. Cracroft Wilson, C.8., " Renall, Hon. the Speaker, " Chairman of Committees Mr. Russell. " Creyke, " Crosbie Ward. So it passed in the Affirmative. Adjourned to Wednesday at half-past 3.

Present :— Mr. Fitzherbert, Mr. Russell, Hon. the Speaker. " Crosbie Ward, Mr. Creyke. " Renall. Mr. Weld in the Chair. Minutes of last Meeting were read and confirmed. Moved by Mr. Russell, That the Reports in the Southern Cross and New-Zealander of Dr. Feather ston's reply on the 14th June, be-submitted to Dr. Featherston, and that he be requested to inform the Committee whether he is correctly reported by those Newspapers, and if not, in what respect he is incorrectly reported. Resolved in the Affirmative. The Honourable Dr. Featherston called in and examined.
